OBA Events and Reunions |
A fantastic day was had by all on Friday 2nd December. 140 Old Brutonians met at The Apothecaries' Hall, Blackfriars for a champagne reception, followed by a three course meal, with flowing wines, mince pies and Port! OBs from across the eras (and oceans) were in attendance. Sandy Phillips (B19/21 and youngest OB present) started the meal with a spirited Grace which got everyone in the mood. This was Sandy's first London Lunch (we hope the first of many), he was accompanied by his father Tom Phillips (OH / OB O86/91) and grandfather Peter Phillips (OH / OB L60/65) - always wonderful to have multigenerations of OBs at one event.
Chris Rhys-Jones (O45/49) gave the Loyal Toast, with Headmaster Ian Wilmshurst (Hon OB) and President of the OBA Gemma Brunton (W92/94) giving speeches. OBA Treasurer Michael West (OH / OB O49/55) rounded off the formal part of the lunch by giving the traditional Floreat Brutonia toast, following which there were renditions of Jerusalem and the School song - the PA system of the Hall couldn't quite keep up with the volume of the 140 Old Brutonians, but fun was had regardless.
Feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive, with comments made that it was wonderful for like minded people with a shared experience to come together in a beautiful setting. We hope to run many more OB events in the near future, across the country, so please do watch this space.
We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to the next London Lunch - date TBC!
