It was a complete pleasure to organise a tour of King's and a tour of Hazlegrove for three of our alumni, Richard Watson, David Nealon and Laurence Fox.  The three were at Hazlegrove together in teh mid to late 70's, before moving on to King's (leaving in '82 and '84). Ed Tickner (previous staff of King's) toured the trio around King's, revisiting old haunts including Memorial Hall and New House.  By all accounts, lots of memories came flooding back to the three.

It was then on to Hazlegrove, where we were able to go into some of the dorms in School House (which, apart from some modification, are very similar and are still named after battleships!), finding photos in the Pavilion of peers and even venturing into the cellars to see where shoes were polished.

I am always struck with how many things have changed, arguably for the better (tree climbing is supervised, we have working central heating and the 'traditional practice' of fagging was outlawed many years ago), but a lot hasn't changed, and alumni are always able to find something that takes them back to their time at school.  It might be some wooden panneling, or a window that led out to a bit of a roof space, it could be a tree that was climbed, or a bridge that was crossed several times a day... whatever it is, the Schools haven't lost their essence, just developed and grown into the excellent teaching and pastorally rich settings they are today.

If you would like a tour of Hazlegrove, King's or both, please don't hesitate to get in touch and I will be delighted to help - eeh@kingsbruton.com
