| King's Bruton News |
As this first term draws to a close, I have found myself reflecting on what an extraordinary few months it has been. Stepping into life at King’s has been both energising and deeply reassuring, not least because of the warmth shown to me by pupils, staff, parents and the wider Old Brutonian community. That sense of generosity and welcome has meant a great deal.
Starting in my role in September, I formed some early impressions of the school: the pride people take in our pupils, and the genuine affection that members of the community hold for King’s. Having now met every member of staff, spent plenty of time with the pupils, and also with many Old Brutonians, those early observations have only strengthened. What comes through time and again is the importance of community here: a school where people are known as individuals, where relationships are rooted in respect, and where the atmosphere feels purposeful and positive. It is a defining quality of King’s, and something we must continue to cherish.
Much of this term has been spent listening and learning, and the next stage will involve shaping our strategic direction. By the end of the academic year, we aim to have a clear, shared vision for the next five years. Not a reinvention, but a confident articulation of who we are and where we want to go. This is something I am looking forward to, and I will of course share our vision with the community as it emerges.
Meanwhile, the festive season has brought a welcome lift to these darker weeks. The Boarding Houses are brightly decorated, the Christmas trees are up, and our end-of-term Carol Service was a wonderful reminder of the joy and togetherness that make this place so special. Our pupils seem to be relishing the moment, and that has been a pleasure to see. I look forward to meeting many more members of the Old Brutonian community as the year progresses.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas,
Matt Radley
